On this day in 1991 Governor Anne Richards of the state of Texas, declared it “ZZ Top Day,” honoring the band for “bringing the powerful beat of Texas boogie to enthusiastic audiences across the globe.” “Tres Hombres” is the 3rd album from ZZ Top, releasednin July of 1973. It was the 1st time the band worked with Terry Manning as engineer, and it was the band’s commercial breakthrough. In the US, the album entered the top 10 with the single “La Grange” making heavy rotation on FM Radio. The is one of the best albums ever made, not a bad track on it!! A classic rock boogie masterpiece!! In the mid 80s the remixed version created controversy among fans because it significantly changed the sound of the instruments, especially drums. The album has the famous gate fold photo on the inside.
