It is believed that red brick dust, which is frequently used in both European and Hoodoo folk magic, has African origins. The word ‘brick dust,’ also called ‘redding’ or just ‘brick dust,’ comes from an old belief that natural red ochre powder had magical powers. Amulets are primarily used for protection.”
