Today is National IFA day! Story time about Elegua, Oshun and Shango, I was taught this Odu from mi padrino. (I’ll also detail who these Orishas are).
(It is well known that Elegua and Oshun are actually very good friends.)-Esu Laroye. Oshun is the Orisha of fresh water/river/beauty/fertility/love. Elegua s the Orisha of the crossroads/the messanger (he is also known to be a trickster but in a way thats meant to teach you a lesson in more of a mischievous way-IFA says when interacting with him it’s good to crack a joke in front of his altar and to avoid crying in front of his altar because he will definitely triple your tears-give you some more things to cry about)he is the guardian sitting at the door of the spiritual realms, to interact with the Orishas you would first have to go through Esu. (Think of Esu as the shadow side of Elegua). He is often times seen as either a short/small old farmer or a little boy-indicating his childlike/jokester nature-also he loves children). Shango is Orisha of thunder,lightening, the drums. In this Odu, Shango had attempted to r•pe Oshun and Elegua stopped him, Shango then laughed and threatened him (keep in mind Shango was a very large/muscular man and Elegua was a small old man) and Elegua told Shango that he would close all the roads/doors for him/stop any opportunities that he had/or that were coming his way. With this, Shango changed his mind and walked away never to try to take advantage of Oshun again. Thank you all for reading! Ase.
