Bastione di Saint Remy ❤️
A striking, majestic building dating back to the early 20th century stands in the historic center of Cagliari, it is one of the symbols of the Sardinian capital and has served a variety of functions over the decades.
The gate leading from the Villanova district to the Castello fortifications in the heart of the old city, a bastion that owes its name to the Baron of San Remy, first viceroy of Piedmont.
The impressive structure consists of yellow and white limestone columns topped with Corinthian capitals. The main staircase is long and complex, leading up from the square via a series of ramps that join halfway up to form a wide terrace. From here you can go to the gallery, which connects large, bright rooms decorated with vivid colors and framed by high arches. Below the main arch dominating the building there is another staircase with two circular ramps that lead to the Umberto I Terrace, from which you can enjoy wonderful views of the entire city and the sea. There are two more stair ramps in the square leading to the Bastione di Santa Caterina.
