There are contracts that bind.
Some roles I choose for myself and others are chosen for me. When I feel disempowered, I can passively allow for manipulation and exploitation to take place. When I have expectations that others will show up for me in a certain way, I can limit their expression and bind them to adhere to my needs.
The culture of domination may be so ingrained that we failed to see that we have been stripped of our authority. When we participate in power structures. we need to be at peace with the position that we take on. Better yet, we need to enjoy our role and feel respected for what we bring.
There is a nobility in being of service to others, but we should be careful where we rest our loyalty. Sacrifice is often called for in order for us to fulfil our responsibilities. Be conscious of the consequences of your agreements.
