I don’t believe that making music should *always* feel easy.

Instead, I believe in courage, imperfect action, & our ability to tap into inner creative wisdom—even when inspiration is M.I.A.

There was a point in my life when if things didn’t flow effortlessly I felt like something was wrong. I hear this from others all the time, too:

“Clearly my ideas aren’t good, otherwise this wouldn’t feel so HARD.”

“This isn’t happening fast enough, I’m blocked creatively—again.”

“UGH. Everything feels uncomfortable, what am I doing wrong?”

First of all: I’ve been there.

But over the years, my perspective on things has changed a lot:

What if feeling challenged & uncomfortable in your music-making isn’t a sign of failure… but actually of expansion & growth?

I’ll never forget something one of my mentors told me years ago:

“To know you are improving & deepening your practice, you MUST push to the point where the wheels might completely fall off.”

If it’s ALWAYS easy… what are you doing? Are you simply repeating something you’ve already perfected? Are you really digging deep into your creative potential & expanding what’s possible for yourself?

When you decide you want an upgrade in your creative practice, you’re going to have to face all kinds of inner sh*t. 😅

Impostor syndrome, insecurities, self doubt, realizing you kinda suck at that new instrument you just got (been there!)

But THESE moments are where you build your unique voice & resilience. They’re a vital part of the creative process, because when you DO work through them, your flow-state will feel so much more epic & exciting.

Now, to be clear, I also don’t believe in struggle for the sake of struggle—I’m NOT suggesting that we should force out creativity at all costs.

For me, an ideal practice is one that supports AND challenges. One that feels thrilling because I may end up somewhere I’ve never been before, & safe because of the trust I’ve built in myself.

What if you thought of every challenge as the step right before a huge uplevel…would you back away, or embrace them with courage? ❤️
