While doing bilby research out at Venus Bay Conservation Park, we were lucky enough to have a chance encounter with this adorable little marsupial. While I was cleaning out some hessian bags for cage trapping, this western pygmy possum (Cercartetus concinnus) rolled out of a bag, fast asleep! Being a bit too dazed from the rude awakening for immediately release, we held onto her until after dark when she was a bit more alert and active. We released her into some nice nearby bush, where she has much less chance of being accidentally squished while snoozing!
