💐💐💐A perfect evening in the company of Olivia Laing, who was in Bristol to tell us about her new book The Garden Against Time but in fact told us about an awful lot more: problematic histories of paradise, being a neighbour to the land rather than an occupier, the heartbreak of John Clare, relaxed attitudes to weeding, and gardening with the horizon as your border a la Derek Jarman.
We’ve been fans of Olivia since forever (sweet lord haven’t we all) so it was a particular pleasure to host, and especially for such an incredible book.
Massive and unending thanks to @olivialanguage for coming to see us, to Michael Malay for perfectly pitched questions, to @tobaccofactorytheatres for making us feel right at home as usual, and - big one - to phenomenal @isabloomfloraldesign for the stunning Garden Against Time-inspired floral installation (which we’ve now purloined for the shop obvs).
