Preparations for the upcoming Hajj season in Saudi Arabia have reached completion, with the General Authority for Roads having finalized extensive work on the routes to Makkah. With a primary goal of enhancing the pilgrimage experience, a comprehensive upgrade spanning 4,000 kilometers of roadways has been carried out.
The improvements encompass various aspects, including resurfacing 158 kilometers of roads, addressing cracks and potholes at 403 locations, trimming road shoulders across 2,361 kilometers, removing 1,240 cubic meters of sand dunes, and cleaning valley streams at 421 sites. These enhancements are aimed at ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey for pilgrims during their sacred pilgrimage.
Recognized by the World Bank for its exceptional interconnection, the kingdom’s road network plays a vital role in facilitating safe travel to the holy sites. To further guarantee the readiness of these routes, Eng Bader Al Dalami, the acting CEO of the General Authority for Roads, conducted an inspection tour covering over 2,000 kilometers of roads leading to key religious destinations.
