If you think about it, most people hold deep secrets in their hearts as well as regularly confess what burdens their hearts… they just confess these regrets and failings to their friends, family, therapists, and people they regularly see or hang out with. It’s ingrained in us to let it all out. The problem with that is none of those people can absolve you of those sins, but Jesus can and does through the sacrament of reconciliation via a priest who stands “in persona Christi” in the sacraments. Jesus himself is present at that moment and Jesus himself (NOT the priest) forgives your sins and removes them from your heart, from your soul, “as far as the east is from the west.” If you don’t know where to start, walk into a Catholic Church and speak with a priest. Your life will never be the same. There is NOTHING as freeing and beautiful as being washed clean of what burdens your heart and soul.
