Gearing up for garage sale season? Here’s some tips for sellers!
🏷 Know your, ‘why’: This first tip is crucial for success. Why do you want to have a garage sale? To make money? To declutter? Both? Identifying your why first helps with motivation when it gets tough to part with certain items. The more specific you can be with reasoning, the better.
🏷 Picking items: Focus on your ‘why’ and be ruthless! Make sure the items you choose to sell are in good condition and aren’t junk. Add batteries to items that need them. Make sure bike/stroller tires and balls are pumped up. By going the extra mile, you have the best chance of selling.
🏷 Pricing: Price items as you pick them out to include them in the sale. This is so much easier than waiting until you have piles of items. Remember to think like a customer. Remove emotional attachment as much as possible and be objective when choosing a price. The goal is to sell! You don’t want to go through all this work just to be stuck with a bunch of leftover stuff. And be prepared to negotiate.
🏷 Arrange items thoughtfully. Clothing should be freshly washed and folded nicely or hung on a rack. Items should be laid out nicely with everything easily visible. Group sets of items together, like linens or clothing that goes well together. If you’re selling jewelry, handbags, and sunglasses, you can have a luxury/designer section.
🏷 Don’t forget: Calculator, ziplock bags, grocery bags, receipt book, cash drawer for change, chairs, music, and a drink cooler.
