Things are always changing and adapting at Disney parks. We usually only look at major building and attractions as their changes have such an affect on the theming
But, sometimes smaller changes can have an effect of esthetics as well
When the Imagination Pavilion first opened, it came with a fountain, jumping water effects and a rather spectacular abstract sculpture as part of the fountain
The 1998 renovation of the pavilion had a dramatic effect of the primary attraction in the pavilion (Journey Into Imagination became Journey Into YOUR Imagination)
The fountain changed too
The leap frog fountains were reduced in size to accommodate the new gift shop at the exit of the new Journey Into Your Imagination attraction, and with it came a new, less dynamic, sculpture to go with the reduced fountain size
The new sculpture still looks good and still reflects the glass pyramids of the pavilion, but that abstract design so prevalent in early Epcot was gone, taking away some of the visual appeal
*While I had some difficulty pinning down a specific time for the structure change, it lines up with the 1998 refresh
