On Mars, astronaut and metaphysicist Capt. Alistair Carter prepares to venture outside of the lunar lander lab to gather more surface samples of the martian planet to extract olivine and pyroxene, two primary minerals in basalt that form when lava solidifies.
The elements will be experimentally combined to see how they react with the blue, alien, and highly reactive crystalline mineral Barbeline, in an attempt to develop tougher yet lightweight metal compounds in order to strengthen Earth's defense systems against attacks by alien hostiles intent on conquering earth.
After successfully cutting a small section of the alien mineral, science droid E-Z2186 melts the sample and contains it in a test tube until Carter is ready for experimentation. Until then,
the liquified mineral is left alone as the computer regulates its temperature.
