This time last week, Thanksgiving had passed, and I was gearing up for one of the biggest days of my year: Black Friday shopping! It’s the one day of the year where I spend a 12-hour + day seeing what glorious Christmas treasures I can find for the best bargain, of course! It may sound crazy, but millions of others do the same trying to find the best gift ever for their loved ones.
As I watched so many scouring the stores, I was thinking of some of the best Christmas gifts I had ever been given. My mind went to being at my grandparents’ house as a little girl on Christmas Eve and hearing sleigh bells coming from the front porch and sprinting to see what Santa had left. I opened the door to find a Little Tikes playhouse that was on the top of my wishlist! Or maybe the best gift was when my parents gave me my first cell phone…that was super exciting until I found out that I had to share it with my sister. Then again, maybe it was a dishwasher that Jon bought for me the first year we were married after we had hosted family for Thanksgiving and we washed all the dishes by hand! That gift was a top contender for the best gift ever!
As my mind wandered down a Christmas movie-esque memory lane, a song began to play. It’s a song by the band Cain called “Wonderful” that references Isaiah 9:6. When I got home, I looked up that scripture in my Bible. It says, For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is GIVEN; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. In an instant I was reminded of truly the best Christmas gift that was ever given to me…and to you. It was prophesied hundreds of years before it was given and arrived on that first Christmas night long ago in the little town of Bethlehem; a little baby that would grow to be our Savior, Jesus.
He is the gift that keeps on giving. He will never go out-of-style, expire, or be returned. He costs nothing to receive but yet is of more value than any earthly treasure. He has never failed as our Wonderful Counselor, His wisdom and guidance is unmatched. *continue reading in the comments*
