1994 Playmates Monster Force Creature from the Black Lagoon
Underrated line, IMO, with detailed sculpts and a creative reimagination of the Universal Classic Monsters. Ol’ ‘goony’—is there a generally accepted nickname for this guy? ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’ is a mouthful—looks fantastic, like a ‘roided-up version of the classic interpretation. The iridescent paint job is an especially nice touch.
Despite never having watched the short-lived cartoon, I ended up with a lone Lance McGruder figure as a kid—a small victory against my parents’ crusade to limit my collection to only the lines I was already deeply invested in. Now, as a financially irresponsible adult, there’s no one to stop me from collecting them all!
As an aside, this is the second Cramps song I’ve used to soundtrack a post, and I feel like their music could work for 99% of what I post. Maybe Lux Interior and Poison Ivy were action figure collectors too, just singing about their toys?
